Armatherm™ FRR

Armatherm™ FRR Structural Thermal Break Material
(Thermal Insulation Material – TIM)
Armatherm™ FRR structural thermal break material provides a combination of low thermal conductivity and high compressive strength and has been used in hundreds of structural steel framing connections transferring load in moment and shear conditions.
Armatherm™ FRR thermal break material can support high loads and has great mechanical properties. The material is made of a reinforced, thermoset resin which is fire resistant making it the ideal material for use in structural steel and façade thermal break connections.

Armatherm™ Thermal Washer and Bushing
With a bolt through insulation pad there is a slight thermal transfer along the connecting bolt.
To further reduce heat loss, Armatherm™ bushings and washers can be used on the warm face of the structure. A thermal break at the bolt connection will reduce heat loss an additional 4% per bolt depending on the wall assembly construction.
In extreme applications (e.g. Indoor Swimming Pools), to prevent condensation on the bolt head, a polyurethane nut cap can be supplied to effectively screen this cold surface from the internal environment.

More about Armatherm™'s FRR Thermal Break
As used within a number of prestigious, high-profile projects across the world, the Armatherm™ product range includes the innovative FRR material which harbors inert and water resistant qualities. This makes it ideal for a number of applications and locations, including cladding fixings, foundation to wall transitions, column base and roof penetrations.
The Armatherm™ product range boasts usage by multiple prestigious, high-profile projects worldwide. The ground-breaking FRR material utilised within the product harbors non reactive and water resistant capabilities.
The UK is facing increasing legislation, impacting the future of the construction industry. Armatherm™ gives you the opportunity to stay ahead of these changes, with products which aid poorly isolated connections within existing buildings and products for structures currently undergoing construction, to make both as efficient as possible. These solutions need to be implemented soon, within the earliest stages of a construction project, in order to conform with upcoming legislation. Because of this, it is important for architects and developers to realise the importance of products which aid in efficiency processes.
Armatherm™’s FRR product is a specific example of a structurally sound high performing thermal break material. It delivers thermal insulation between interior and exterior steelwork, or concrete, which directly prevents cold bridges occurring. Furthermore, this product benefits building envelope performance by significantly reducing heat loss and preventing surface condensation, caused when the cold transfer meets warm air, from forming inside the building. Causing a high risk of making buildings unsustainable and inefficient, structural thermal break concrete connections are in desperate need of these solutions.
Concrete is used frequently within the building industry, due to its durable, long-lasting and cost-effective properties. It also naturally gives a high level of thermal mass, enabling it to absorb, store and release heat to regulate the temperature of buildings. However, a slight penetration through the material can cause a thermal bridge. If this does occur, the energy efficiency of a building will be hugely impacted, as well as its running costs which will lead to an inefficient and uneconomical structure. Structural steel thermal breaks must remain at the forefront of all plans when working with such materials to ensure all the framework, foundations and building envelope faces no detrimental consequences.
The U value of the roof assembly will be greatly improved with the introduction of structural thermal break pads in a parapet roof location. Also, the potential chances of condensation issues occurring will be prevented at the structural connection. With the FRR and 500 series thermal break materials, continuous insulation will be created, as heat flow will be reduced significantly whilst transferring loading conditions. Locational efficiency can be improved by as much as 80%, invaluable in the light of the UKs legislation policies.
The Armatherm™ team has more than 40 years’ experience in the field and can advise you on which structural thermal break products will be most beneficial for your building needs, and we are also able to answer any queries you may have.
